This bread is wonderful with most any soup or just any time. We love the onion taste, too.
2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon poppy seed 1 teaspoon parsley flakes 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted 2 eggs 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped 5 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled, optional 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, poppy seeds, parsley flakes and garlic powder. In a smaller bowl whisk together buttermilk, melted butter and eggs. Add to dough mixture. Fold in crumbled bacon, shredded cheese and onion. Mix well with a spoon. Spray a 9 x 4 inch bread pan with cooking spray. Add bread dough and bake in preheated 350 degree oven 45 to 50 minutes. Let cool in pan for about 10 minutes. Makes 1 loaf. Enjoy! yum! I just may have to make this today!
Sounds amazing! Love the combo of all the flavors…and would be good with soup that I seem to make often. Thanks Judy!
Looks very similar to a recipe my parents used to make, delicious! Great with homemade soups too. 🙂 Thanks, might just have to put one together for dinner tonight!
This looks lovely! I have been on a bit of a bread making kick lately. Actually whipping up a focaccia bread now. Its resting as I type! 🙂 This is a delicious bread I look forward to trying.
This is fantastic but I wonder if leaving out the bacon would change the taste too much?
I am sure it would change the taste Michele but I have so many people on here that are vegetarians or that are giving up meat for Lent. That is the reason I said you could leave out the meat.
Yummy, Made this to go with my Mushroom & Dijon Pork Chops with Potatoes and Green Beans Almondine… My family went crazy for it. Gonna make 2 loafs for family dinner next Sunday…thanks for sharing! I have a photo of it on my fb page along with your link for my friends to try.
Thank you Ronda! Happy your family enjoyed this bread and thanks for recommending to your friends as well. Hope you are having a good weekend.
